[SOLVED] Sony Bravia Vs Acer KG241Q


I am a casual gamer, but also would like to have the best set up I can! Mostly FPS (rainbow six etc..) and I play on x box..

I had to order a couple new monitors for work, and figured I might upgrade my current set up.

I am currently using a Sony Bravia KDL-52V5100. With a fairly large screen (mid 50’s).

After some quick research, I thought an Acer KG241Q would be a sure upgrade. (Below)

But per the specs for the Bravia, the refresh rate is much better than I had anticipated.


This leads me to my question. Am I better off for first person shooters(x box) with my Sony Bravia? Or hooking up the new Acer monitor?

The Acer has a 1ms response time but only 75Hz refresh rate.

While the Bravia appears to have a 120Hz refresh rate, and an unknown response time..

Any input on this would be extremely helpful.

The Bravia is almost certainly a TV-land "fake" 120Hz. 60Hz doubled through sofware trickery.

I'd have to find a detailed review to confirm, but at a glace, I suspect that would be the case.

Between refresh rate accuracy, and response time variance* the monitor is a much better choice IMO.

*Modern TV's typically have anywhere from 10-50+ms response times, depending on the 'mode' enabled, resolution & various other factors.


Given the manuals/documentation are dated 2009 at the earliest, you're talking an older model, where those numbers are likely to be dramatically higher.

TV's from 13-14 (the earliest I can find on rtings) show 40-75ms response times.
