GTX 1060 6GB with i7-6700K benchmarks at Ultra Quality settings
At 1440p, GTX 1060 6GB can hit 50-60 fps on pretty much everything at ultra, just without antialiasing, less ambient occlusion and turned down shadows. It is clear that the GTX 1060 6GB is a significantly more capable high-end card that can play AAA titles at 1080p/1440p with 50-60 frames per second. The price/performance ratio is excellent for GTX 1060 6GB against the competition in budget mid-range cards. In terms of memory, the GTX 1060 6GB 's 6144 MB RAM is more than enough for modern games and should not cause any bottlenecks.
The GTX 1070 might be the mid-range flagship of the latest Pascal set of graphics cards, but their prices keep them out of the reach of most entry-level PC gamers. On the other hand, the GTX 1060 6GB is closer to being reasonably affordable at a price tag of $ 254. NVIDIA ’s xx60 cards have always been defined by entry-level prices with performance that knocks on the door of mid-range graphics cards – especially when overclocked. After taking the time to fully test the Pascal graphics card inside the GTX 1060 6GB, we can say without a doubt that it continues the trend.
The GTX 1060 6GB is much more expensive than the GTX 960 as it costs a whopping $ 254. Compare this to the GTX 960, which came originally at a price of $ 199. Meanwhile, the AMD closest equivalent card is the RX 580 which costs $ 229. Spec for spec, this GTX 1060 6GB leapfrogs its direct predecessor, the GTX 960, by boasting 2 % more fps.

The GTX 1060 6GB has 6 GB RAM compared to the GTX 960 's 2 GB video memory. In our synthetic benchmarks, the GTX 1060 6GB blows past the GTX 960 and, amazingly, even the GTX 970 as well.
Fortunately, gaming performance was quite impressive. The GTX 1060 6GB consistently delivers great frame rate increases over the GTX 960 and it really justifies an upgrade. For 1080p Full HD, we were able to play Hitman 2, Apex Legends, F1 2019, World War Z, Battlefield V at 61 fps to 68 fps and kept frame rates hovering around 65 fps.
Conclusion. Nvidia introduced us to the Pascal architecture with GeForce GTX 1080, and it blew us away by besting previous-gen flagships at a familiar price point.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 is the king of the mid-range, and will be the star of Black Friday 2018. Read our GTX 1060 review to find out why.

The GeForce GTX 1060 is Nvidia's answer to AMD's Radeon RX 480, which redefined what a 0 graphics card can do.
I bought a retail MSI Geforce GTX 1060 Gaming X card last month and it was defaulted to OC mode by default. This is the same as the test version that the press received.

NVIDIA releasing the GeForce GTX 1060 so early came as a surprise to most as everybody expected it to be released in fall, around October, which would have given NVIDIA time to milk the high-end while AMD's RX 480 captured the lower end of the market.

I'm looking forward to upgrading to the Ryzen 5 2600x (from an i3-4130) and i'm happy to see, that this combo (I already have a 1060 6gb) achieves very smooth frames in basically any AAA game at high settings, which is already a HUGE upgrade from playing Far Cry 5 on lowest settings with 0.6 render scaling at only 45-60 fps due to that ugly i3 bottleneck xD

In most games 3 GB is still enough for 1080p high, but it will definitely start showing it's age soon. RX 570 would take advantage in DX12 games and the extra vram is going to be useful, so go with the 570.

rx 580 and the GTX 1060 6GB are both good cards. They perform decently in comparison to one another. I would not get a GTX 1060 3GB though and the RX 570 would be only if I couldn't afford the GTX 1060 6Gb or RX 580. Also the RX 580 has more ram then the GTX 1060 6GB. If you gaming at 1080P then it doesn't matter all that much between 6GB vs 8GB cards but if you game at higher resolutions like 1440P then the RX 580 looks more attractive with it's larger 8GB frame buffer in the long term for gaming though performance wise it is still neck and neck with the 1060.

They are pretty close. Either is better for an individual depending on some variables i'll list below. What games you play is also important when choosing.
GTX 1060 6GB:
- Lower Power Usage - Generally Lower Temps (Better cooled) - Better Performance in most Nvidia GameWorks titles, DirectX 11 and OpenGL games. - Excellent Overclocker (If that interests you) - CUDA might be something you benefit from if you work on any platforms that are optimised it.
RX 580 8GB:
- Slightly cheaper (Most the time) - 2GB of more VRAM - Better Performance in most AMD Gaming Evolved titles, DirectX 12 and Vulkan games - CrossFire (Mulit-GPU) compatible (The GTX 1060 cannot SLI) - Typically the stronger card overall on an average of ~5-8% - Can be paired with a FreeSync monitor for relatively cheap.
To summarise, the RX 580 8GB often comes ahead in most games today but with higher power usage + temps at that. There are other things on the RX 580 that would indicate it to be better card in the long run due to the extra VRAM, better long-term driver support, better performance in newer APIs (Vulkan and DX12) and of course the ability to add another RX 580 in CrossFire (you might see one cheap). But of course you might be someone big on power efficiency, overclocking or like having a quieter/cooler card which the GTX 1060 does better at. Just go for whichever card has features that appeal more to you and your build. Hope this helps
